There are millions of kilometres of public and private drain and sewer assets in the European countries that represent the transport infrastructure for wastewater and storm water to treatment plants, or via overflows to natural water courses. The assets deteriorate with time as any aging infrastructure; if public utilities will not develop effective management strategies, they will soon have to face relevant direct costs for replacement or renewal. Additionally even higher costs related to externalities to the surrounding environment must be taken into account for the future.

Thus, the management of a sewer network has to include proactive maintenance plans in order to operate the assets in a cost –effective and efficient manner

This paper deals with the development of a spatial decision support procedure, whose goal is to reduce the occurrence of surface and basement flooding related to blockages in the pipes. A conceptual model has been defined that reproduces the scheme of the process of sewer maintenance planning. A Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) model implemented for a pilot study region in order to provide a proof of concept. Different scenarios have been simulated and two strategies for the scheduling of  CCTV inspections are compared analytically, in order to select the most cost efficient.
